Westminster City Council granted conditional planning permission to replace the existing stands early this year. The terms of the Section 106 agreement have since been agreed and GLA approval granted to secure full planning permission.
Double Stirling Prize-winning architects WilkinsonEyre have produced impressive designs for the new stands, which complement the setting of the J.P. Morgan Media Centre and create world-class spectator facilities.
The new stands will have integrated amenities and will accommodate 11,600 – increasing the Ground’s overall seating capacity by around 2,600. There will also be wheelchair spaces and additional accessible seating as well as lift access at all levels.
The construction contract for the project will be finalised in the summer and work will commence on site on 27th August 2019. A rapid-build design sequence has been developed to minimise interruption to match fixtures, with seating in the new stands available for use during the 2020 season. Fully fitted-out facilities are scheduled to be completed in time for the formal opening of the new stands in the summer of 2021.
