Cuckney Cricket Club v. Blackheath (Surrey) Cricket Club

The Cawston Press Village Cup Final, run by The Cricketer, takes place at Lord’s on Sunday 6 September as Cuckney (Nottinghamshire) face Blackheath (Surrey).

Blackheath, based in Surrey, will have a relatively short journey and no doubt be backed by a good number of supporters for their first ever final, having entered the inaugural competition in 1972. They booked their final spot with a huge victory over Wiltshire side Goatacre – twice winners of the tournament – in the semi-final and will be hoping to take the trophy back to their picturesque village ground.

Cuckney are completing a rare double today by making it to Lord’s, becoming the first team to play in both the National Club Final and National Village Cup Final at the Ground. They beat Bexley here in 2023, and, although eligibility rules ensure a largely different selection of players, they will be buoyed by their recent victory in St John’s Wood. They also defeated another legendary name from the tournament in the semi-final – Woodhouse Grange – to make it here today.
