Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the Tech Titans are delighted to confirm that London Spirit will retain its name as the franchise enters a bold new era. To emphasise the Club’s ambition, it is proud and excited to announce Mo Bobat as the team’s new Director of Cricket from 1 October, 2025, the first major appointment ahead of the 2026 season.
Bobat joins the Spirit after his recent, and winning, role as Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL – which he will continue to deliver – and following a distinguished period as Performance Director for the England Men’s team. His appointment brings top-level experience and a progressive vision to the franchise as it looks to build an elite high-performance environment for the next era of The Hundred.
Last month, ECB confirmed the new future for The Hundred, with all eight franchises transitioning to private ownership. As part of that shift, MCC now holds a 51% stake in London Spirit, with the remaining 49% acquired by US-based tech investment group Tech Titans.
The name ‘London Spirit’ will remain at the heart of the club’s identity, continuing to represent the capital’s energy, diversity, and cricketing heritage. A new brand identity is being developed and will launch early in 2026, reflecting the franchise’s bold, new approach, while celebrating the history and heritage of MCC and Lord’s.
London Spirit Chairman, Julian Metherell, said: "Today marks a significant moment for London Spirit. Mo Bobat brings unmatched expertise and vision to the role of Director of Cricket, and we’re thrilled to welcome him. At the same time, retaining the London Spirit name reflects our belief in the identity that’s been built – one that resonates with the capital, our fans, and our values. We now look ahead to a new era, with fresh energy and clear purpose."
Mo Bobat, new London Spirit Director of Cricket, said: "It’s an honour to join London Spirit at such an exciting time. The opportunity to shape the cricketing future of this franchise, working with MCC and our new partners, the Tech Titans, is incredibly exciting. I’m looking forward to building something special—on and off the field."
