The inaugural season of The Hundred last year was filled with drama, thrills and spills played out in front of record attendances at Lord’s, and we expect more of the same when it returns in August, as we welcome back London Spirit to their home ground with four action-packed group matches.
Manchester Originals, Welsh Fire and Birmingham Phoenix will all visit Lord’s to take on Spirit, whilst the standout fixture against London rivals Oval Invincibles looks set to be a bumper way to kick off the summer bank holiday weekend.
The Manchester Originals match will be a men's match day only as the women's tournament will begin a week later as they complete the Commonwealth Games cricket competition in Birmingham. All the other match days at Lord’s will encompass both men’s and women’s matches.
The women’s and men’s finals will take place on Saturday 3 September. In last year’s finals, Oval Invincibles claimed the inaugural women’s title, with Marizanne Kapp putting in a stunning performance with bat and ball against Southern Brave. In the men’s final, it was Brave who were triumphant, defeating Birmingham Phoenix as Paul Stirling’s half-century lit up Lord’s.
The group stages will end on Wednesday 31 August before the second and third placed men’s and women’s teams face each other at the Ageas Bowl in The Hundred Eliminator on Friday 2 September, for the right to play at Lord’s the following day.
"It is a huge opportunity to take our game to new audiences"
London Spirit women’s captain Heather Knight said: “It is going be an incredible summer of women’s cricket with the best players in the world taking part in The Hundred and the Commonwealth Games right here in the UK.
It is a huge opportunity to take our game to new audiences, inspire the next generation of girls and boys and show them that cricket can be a game for them.”
These fixtures complete the domestic matches at Lord’s in 2022, along with the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Final, six Middlesex matches in the LV=County Championship and four Vitality Blast matches. A full Lord’s fixture list is due to be published in the coming weeks.
