The explosive opening batsman had already taken three wickets in the match for West Indies, as England could only manage a total of 285/7 after their 50 overs with thanks to centuries from Andrew Strauss and Andrew Flintoff.
Gayle was quick to make his mark in response for his side, and despite being nearly run-out on 99, he raced to his hundred before securing victory for West Indies with five balls to spare.
His unbeaten innings saw him hit 12 fours and a six in an innings that lasted 165 balls and 212 minutes.
With three wickets and a century during the match, Gayle was quite rightly named man-of-the-match for his performance in the entertaining ODI at the Home of Cricket.
