The six MCC Universities will begin their 2018 season with the annual first-class fixtures against various County opposition.
Amongst the venues for the three-day matches, which take place next April, are no fewer than six Test Match venues, with the Ageas Bowl, Edgbaston, Emerald Headingley, Emirates Riverside, Kia Oval and SSE SWALEC all playing host to MCCU opposition.
The three rounds of matches begin on Sunday 1st, Saturday 7th and Friday 13th April. The first two matches for each MCCU against County opposition are considered first-class.
Cambridge MCCU will be looking forward to testing themselves against two of 2017’s successful Specsavers County Championship sides, when they meet newly promoted Nottinghamshire and Division One winners Essex at Fenner’s. They then travel to the Kia Oval to take on Surrey as they play away from home for the first time.
Oxford MCCU visit two counties as they take on Kent at the Spitfire Ground, Canterbury and Somerset at Taunton Vale, either side of entertaining Northamptonshire at The Parks.
Leeds/Bradford MCCU meet Division Two champions Worcestershire at Blackfinch New Road, who are captained by alumni Joe Leach. They will make the short trip to play Yorkshire before entertaining Derbyshire at Weetwood, who can include another of their former students amongst their ranks in Luis Reece.
Loughborough MCCU will be hosting their clash with Lancashire, a match sandwiched by trips to the 1st Central County Ground, Hove to face Sussex and Leicestershire’s Fischer County Ground.
Durham MCCU travel to Warwickshire before facing Middlesex at Merchant Taylors’ School and making a local trip to the Emirates Riverside to play Durham, whilst Cardiff MCCU will be up against Gloucestershire, Glamorgan and Hampshire, with all three of their matches being played at international venues.
