MCC will once again be helping to raise money for a number of homeless charities next month by hosting a CEO Sleepout event, for the second year running at Lord’s.
On Monday 30th October 2017, CEO Sleepout are inviting senior level employees from any industry to give up their bed for one night and help those who don’t have one.
CEO Sleepout is a charity set up to fight homelessness and poverty. The fight is funded with money raised by executives who sleep outdoors for one night to raise sponsorship from their business contacts and friends.
Participants will be asked to lead by example by braving the cold and sleeping outdoors side-by-side with their peers to raise awareness and funds for homeless people in London, with Lord’s the venue for the event.
Last year, the event was the biggest of its kind ever held in London, with over 200 CEOs, business leaders and MPs sleeping outside. Their efforts helped raise around £180,000 for various homelessness charities across London, and more than £1 million has been raised since the inception in December 2013.
MCC received a portion of the money raised from the event to distribute for charitable purposes, and in June of this year, contributed £10,000 to The Kensington & Chelsea Foundation to help support the victims of the Grenfell Tower Disaster.
A number of participants have already agreed to take part including incoming MCC Chief Executive & Secretary Guy Lavender. Last year, Derek Brewer, who steps down from the role of Chief Executive & Secretary at MCC shortly, ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison and ECB Director of Women’s Cricket Clare Connor were amongst the sleepers who bedded down in the Mound Stand, as well as former England footballer Sol Campbell.
CEO Sleepout UK Founder Andy Preston said, “We are delighted to be returning to Lord’s in October. Last year’s event was one of the biggest and best CEO Sleepouts that we have ever done and we raised a tremendous amount for our charities.
"Hopefully, we can better the success this time around and we are appealing for those interested in taking part to get in touch.”
