Northern Superchargers beat Southern Brave by seven wickets in the women’s final to claim their first Hundred victory, and in the men’s final, Oval Invisibles made history by beating Trent Rockets by 26 runs to win their third successive The Hundred title.
During the innings break for each match, Helen took to the field, Sky mic in hand to do her first-ever live broadcast interviews talking to Kate Cross for Northern Super Chargers and Will Jacks for Oval Invincibles.
Helen also presented some of the bitesize highlight videos for Sky Sports Cricket’s digital channels and did a live takeover on Lord’s Instagram Stories, giving audiences an insight into her unrivalled experience at Lord’s as it happened.
First launched last year, the MCC Young Female Broadcaster of the Year competition, supported by Sky Sports and leading cricket charity Take Her Lead, aims to increase opportunities for young women aspiring to build a career in sports broadcasting, while uncovering and supporting the next generation of female broadcasting talent in cricket.
Helen was announced as the winner, alongside five runners-up, live on Sky Sports Cricket in an interview with Mel Jones as part of Sky’s pre-match coverage of the Women’s England v India Metro Bank ODI at Lord’s on 19 July.
A 20-year-old English Literature student at the University of Warwick, Helen first discovered her passion for cricket in school and truly embraced the sport last year, joining the University of Warwick Women’s Cricket Club.
Her strong interest in sports media has proved to be the perfect match for her passion for cricket, and after writing for Warwick’s student newspaper, The Boar, she now dreams of hosting her own sports show.
Since winning the competition, Helen has received numerous fantastic opportunities to progress her career aspirations in broadcasting, including a behind-the-scenes visit to Sky Sports Headquarters to learn about live broadcast production, attending The Hundred Eliminator where she familiarised herself with on-field live broadcast production, and was recently announced as a Content Creator Intern with Take Her Lead, showing the competition’s power to meaningfully support young women’s aspirations in sports media.
Following her day broadcasting at The Hundred Final, Helen said: “Getting the chance to broadcast live with the Sky team at Lord’s was a truly incredible experience. I’ve already had so many valuable opportunities as part of this competition with MCC, Sky Sports, and Take Her Lead, and I’m so excited to see where it takes me next, both in my new role with Take Her Lead and the broadcasting world beyond!”
Katie Maier, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at MCC, said: “We are incredibly proud to have had such a successful year two of the MCC Young Female Broadcaster of the Year competition. Seeing budding broadcasters like Helen in action reaffirms why this competition is so important for increasing opportunities for young women in sports broadcasting.
This is a remarkable time of growth for women’s and girls’ cricket, and we can’t wait to continue our work in this space as we look forward to welcoming the first ever Women’s Test Match and the ICC Women’s World Cup final to Lord’s in 2026.”
Isa Guha, Founder of Take Her Lead said: “Take Her Lead is all about giving opportunities to women and girls in cricket and giving them the space to thrive, whether that’s playing the game or participating in another way, so it means a lot to support the MCC Young Female Broadcaster of the Year award for the second year. Huge congratulations to Helen — we’re so excited to have her join us as a Content Creator intern, helping her gain valuable work experience and I can’t wait to see the additional energy and creativity she’ll bring to the team.”
Bryan Henderson, Director of Cricket & NFL at Sky Sports, added: “Sky Cricket was once again delighted to be involved in this brilliant initiative, and it was brilliant to see such an amazing shortlist of entries. Helen is a worthy winner, and we are proud she could be part of our on-screen team for coverage of The Hundred final.”
