Thorpe, an Honorary Life Member of MCC since 2007, excelled as one of England's finest batters in recent decades, having played 100 Tests for his country in a career which spanned between 1993 and 2005. He later went into coaching, working with the England men's team across all formats of the game.
Guy Lavender, Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, said: "Everyone at MCC is hugely saddened to hear of the passing of Graham Thorpe. He was a fantastic cricketer for both England and Surrey and brought an immense amount of joy to many supporters.
"Our thoughts are with Graham's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
A stylish left-hand batter, Thorpe played 13 Test matches for England at Lord's, scoring 711 runs with a top score of 89 coming against India in 1996. He also played seven One-Day Internationals at the Ground, including steering England to victory against Australia in 1997.
A stalwart of Surrey, he also played nine times in the County Championship at Lord's, scoring 117 against Middlesex in 1991. He represented MCC at the Ground in the same year, as well as England A against Essex in 1992, both in first-class matches.
