I.T. Botham 5-35 v IndiaBack to boards

Ian Botham went up on the Lord’s Honours Boards for the fourth time within two calendar years during the India tour of England in 1979. This would go on to be his third time for his bowling performance, whilst one being for his batting credentials previously.

After India won the toss and elected to bat, they were bowled out for a below average total of 96. Botham being the prime destroyer took the wickets of Chetan Chauhan, Anshuman Gaekwad, Yashpal Sharma, Bharat Reddy and the big wicket of Kapil Dev to make up figures of 5-35.

In reply England ended their innings on 419-9 before declaring. Thanks to centuries from Dilip Vengsarkar (103) and Gundappa Vishwanath (113) in the third innings, the Test Match ended in a draw.
