J.T. Hearne 5-76 v AustraliaBack to boards

In 1896, j.T Hearne took 56 Australian wickets against the tourists, and five of these came against Australia at Lord’s in June of the same year, which surprisingly was Hearne’s only Test match at Lord’s.

Despite  not bowling during the first innings thanks to the superb performances of George Lohmann and Tom Richardson, Hearne was able to polish off the tail in Australia’s second innings, taking five wickets including that of Sid Gregory and Clem Hill.

His performances led England to victory by six wickets and his five-wicket haul was the first of four achieved in his career, all against Australia.

From 1891 to 1924, Hearne was engaged at Lord’s as a ground bowler, and the MCC voted to give him a sum of £500 when he left the Club.
