S. Wettimuny 190 v EnglandBack to boards

Sidath Wettimuny became the first Sri Lankan to make the famous Lord’s Honours Boards when he hit 190 during the drawn five-day Test match versus England in 1984.

England won the toss and elected to field, giving opening batsman Wettimuny the opportunity to shine during Sri Lanka’s first ever visit to the Home of Cricket.

Wettimuny duly obliged, scoring 190 off 471 balls in a innings that lasted 642 minutes and included 21 fours.

Following a century from Sri Lanka captain Duleep Mendis, the visitors posted a score of 491/7d but after England managed to score 370 in reply, the match eventually spiralled into a draw after five days at Lord’s.
