v West IndiesBack to boards

William Henry Copson’s Test debut came against West Indies at Lord’s, which in an all-too brief Test career, proved to be where he achieved his only five-wicket haul.

According to Wisden, Copson ‘bowled keenly and if a trifle short of a length, always commanded respect’.

His in-swingers were aimed repeatedly at the middle and leg stumps, and in the first innings he took five wickets including that of Constantine, Headley and Barrow.

Copson then took a further four wickets in the second innings, finishing with match figures of 9-152 as England won by 8 wickets.
