Surrey reached the quarter-finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup and knocked their city rivals Middlesex out in the process with victory in a rain affected match at Lord's.
Ben Foakes was the star in a five-wicket victory under lights at a damp Lord's, making 45 from 33 balls and claiming three catches behind the stumps as Surrey successfully chased 106 in a 16-over match.
After a frustrating afternoon of hokey cokey with the covers, play finally got underway at 6:30pm with both sides knowing victory could see them qualify for the knock-out stages.
Tom Curran and Jade Dernbach quickly got stuck into the Middlesex top order, who found themselves 23/3 after seven overs, with the top three all back in the Pavilion.
John Simpson (29) rescued the innings somewhat with help from George Bailey and James Franklin as Middlesex reached a below-par 101/8 from their 16 overs.
In continued good conditions for bowling, Middlesex put Surrey on the back foot in their chase however, as wickets for Toby Roland-Jones and James Harris reduced the visitors to 28/3.
And when Ollie Rayner bowled the in-form Aaron Finch for 24 to make the score 35/4, Middlesex looked the more likely winners.
But Foakes was joined by Zafar Ansari, and the pair stabalised the situation before attacking in the later overs to see the Brown Caps into the knock-out stages of the competition.
The Royal London One Day Cup Final takes place at Lord's on Saturday 17 September.
