Having lost the first ODI at Headingley, Australia put England into bat at Lord's, hoping to seek revenge for the loss at Leeds.
Once McGrath and Michael Kasprowicz had removed England's opening three batsmen, Lee tore through the home side's middle order.
Kevin Pietersen was the first to go for just 15 before Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Geraint Jones and Ashley Giles all lost their wicket to the brilliance and pace of Lee to succumb to a score of 223/8 after 50 overs.
Australia would go on to chase the target of 224 within 45 overs to tie the series at 1-1 with Lee being awarded the man-of-the-match for his excellent display with the ball.
