D.L. Amiss 188 v IndiaBack to boards

As England piled up their highest total at Lord’s, Dennis Amiss scored 188 of their 629 runs against India in 1974 as the hosts romped to victory in this one-sided affair at the Home of Cricket.

Amiss put on a mammoth 221 with John Edrich, which was the highest partnership for the second wicket in England against India. He looked particularly strong when cover driving the ball and completed his century in three hours and twenty minutes.

He was unbeaten on 187 at the end of the opening day with England having reached 334 for 1. He could add only a single to his tally the next day but was one of three centurions in the innings along with Mike Denness and Tony Greig.

India fought hard for their 302 all out in reply to England, but collapsed to only 42 all out in their second innings and the hosts comfortably won the match by an innings and 285 runs.
