The milestone was one that Sangakarra was desperate to achieve having failed in his previous three Test matches at Lord's to score a century on the famous Ground.
The then 36-year-old hit 147 in the first innings of the Sri Lanka’s innings during the match to join fellow Sri Lanka great and his close friend Mahela Jayawardene on the Honours Boards.
His innings saw Sangakkara face 258 balls, hitting 16 sixes before being stumped by Matt Prior off the bowling of Moeen Ali to conclude an emotional and memorable knock at the Home of Cricket.
Helped by a knock of 61 by Sangakkara in the second innings, Sri Lanka would hold on to a sublime draw at the end of Day Five by just one wicket to seal one of the finest Test matches seen at HQ.
