With England 131/5 in their first innings, all-rounder Woakes came to bat alongside Jonny Bairstow hoping to add to the host’s lead of 24.
The partnership’s sixth-wicket stand of 189 became an England record against India, before Bairstow departed for 93.
However, that wicket did not stop Woakes from going to make his hundred with the Warwickshire man managing to finish his innings with an unbeaten score of 137, hitting 21 fours in the process.
England declared with 396 on the board and managed to bowl India out in the second innings with Woakes taking two wickets as the hosts won by an innings and 159 runs.
